Rick Richmond, Entrepreneur-in-Residence


Rick Richmond is a specialist in business development with experience primarily in the health care products field. His experience encompasses venture fund raising, business planning and development, marketing including domestic and international product launches, finance and division and company management.

Concurrent with his role as Entrepreneur-in-Residence at HTR, he is CEO of Diffinity Genomics, a new venture developing products for genetic sequence detection.

Previously, Rick was CEO of STS Biopolymers, a leading developer and producer of polymeric coatings for medical devices. He led the development of the company from a two-person research and development operation to a 46-person research, development, licensing and production leader in the field, with operations in the U.S. and the Netherlands. He joined HTR as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence after leading the sale of STS Biopolymers to Angiotech Pharmaceuticals.

Prior to STS Biopolymers, Rick was Executive Vice President of STS duoTEK, a premier provider of testing, packaging and sterilization services and products to the medical device and pharmaceutical industries. Rick has also started a single-use laboratory plastics products company and managed the turnaround of a pharmaceutical, cosmetics and electronics water purification equipment company. At Sybron Corporation, Rick held executive positions in planning, marketing, finance, business development and division management. Rick has also assisted several Rochester-area entrepreneurs in their formation of technology-based companies.

Rick has an MBA and an MS from the UofR Simon School and has taught economics and mathematics at the school. He is a member of the Excell Partners Advisory Board, a past Director of the Health Care Industry Association and past President of the Rochester High Technology Business Council.
