Rami Katz, Technology Commercialization Manager

Rami is HTR's Technology Commercialization Manager, working to connect intellectual property creators and owners with private sector receptors who can create profit from new products, services or processes.  Rami works closely with university and corporate researchers and technology transfer organizations to identify inventions and innovations that can be commercialized by existing or new companies, preferably in the Finger Lakes region.

Rami collaborates with HTR's Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) team, the HTR Entrepreneurs-in-Residence (EIRs) and with other community resources to identify existing companies that can serve as technology receptors, to understand their needs, and to enable them to license and commercialize appropriate technologies.

The position is also the Finger Lakes focal point for the federal SBIR/STTR programs with the objective of increasing company participation in SBIR/STTR grants.

Rami is a graduate of the University of Rochester's William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration.  He earned his MBA with concentrations in Entrepreneurship, Finance and E-Commerce and has accomplished his law degree from the Buchman Faculty of Law at the Tel-Aviv University in Israel, focusing on Business and Corporate Law.

Prior to moving to Rochester, Rami lived in Israel where he worked as an attorney and as a partner in a seed-stage venture capital firm, investing in early-stage technology firms and managing their growth, strategies, creating business plans and leading international commercial and legal negotiations.

Rami accomplished the successful launch of several startup firms dealing with advanced materials, internet-based technologies and bio-technology in Israel and is currently working to facilitate their expansion to the U.S.  While in Rochester, Rami initiated, together with Greater Rochester Enterprise, the Israeli High-Tech conference that took place in Rochester in February 2004.
