HTR is again partnering with the Cornell Center for Materials Research (CCMR) to connect Finger Lakes Region businesses with the JumpStart Grant program.

JumpStart helps fund and create the initial collaboration with university researchers. Project funding covers faculty and their research staff, facilities, services, and materials. Projects up to $15,000 are funded by matching company contributions with JumpStart funds. The cash input from the company is capped at $5,000.

Benefits of the CCMR JumpStart Program:
  • Cost effectively identify and resolve materials or process problems
  • Access to cutting-edge research and faculty knowledge
  • Access to state-of-the-art materials testing facilities
  • Matching NYSTAR funding for participating companies
Examples of how companies have taken advantage of this program:
  • New product prototype development and construction
  • Mathematical modeling for proof of concept studies
  • Improved materials for a manufacturability

Awardees may utilize $1 of NYSTAR funds (via the center sponsoring their project) for every $2 of company expenses for projects of up to $15,000 in value.  Up to half of company expenses may be in the form of non-cash contributions such as employee time, travel expenses, materials and supplies, the remainder in the form of cash expenditures. Project funding covers resources such as faculty, research staff, facilities services, and materials. Recipients will be selected in July for Fall Semester projects beginning in August 2010.
