John Cerveny

John Cerveny is the founder and President of New Energy Resources (NER), located in Schenectady, New York and a senior advisor for TechCity in Kingston NY, where he leads efforts to support the growth and development of TechCity and its tenant businesses through partnerships and support from a wide array of sources. His expertise lies in understanding core technologies and the benefits they provide in sufficient detail to then attract investment, talent and resources through a broad array of partnerships.

As an engineer, Cerveny has the ability to understand the technologies underlying products in the cleantech space. As an experienced entrepreneur, he has led successful efforts to transform startups and their promising technologies into profitable businesses with successful products.

Prior to forming NER in 2008, he led efforts that resulted in hundreds of new jobs, creation of new products, commercialization of new technologies, modification of regulations to pave the way for market acceptance of new products, and total funding of nearly $100 million.

Cerveny previously held senior business development and government relations positions at a number of leading cleantech companies, including Plug Power, GE MicroGen, MTI MicroFuel Cells and Lilliputian Systems. He was a founder of the US Fuel Cell Council and has served as an advisor to the NY Solar Energy Industries Association. He currently provides merit review services for the US Department of Energy.

Cerveny was educated at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he earned a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering and an MBA from the Lally School of Business. He is currently an active supporter of numerous environmental organizations.
